La Perla Chicago, located at 3168 N Clark St in the vibrant Lakeview neighborhood, offers a captivating blend of Restaurant, Bar, Lounge, and Event Venue experiences that make it a multifaceted destination for any occasion. Yet, where it truly shines is in its culinary delights and inviting atmosphere, making it a standout restaurant and lounge in Chicago’s dynamic dining scene.
Step inside La Perla and you’ll immediately feel embraced by its warm, stylish ambiance. The décor, accented by walls adorned with modern Mexican art, sets a creative and intimate mood perfect for a relaxed dinner or a lively night out. As Kenneth Young pointed out, the space exudes a comfortable yet polished vibe that makes you want to settle in and savor every moment.
La Perla’s menu is a vibrant showcase of Latin American-inspired dishes fused with Italian influences, a culinary fusion that excites the palate. The offerings range from hearty sandwiches to exquisite entrees and divine desserts, crafted with both passion and skill. Popular choices like the Grilled Italian Sandwich feature succulent grilled chicken paired with provolone, roasted peppers, and a zesty pesto mayo pressed on ciabatta bread and served alongside crispy fries—an inviting harmony of textures and flavors. For those craving a classic indulgence, the La Perla Burger, boasting a half-pound Angus patty topped with melted cheese, lettuce, tomato, and garlic aioli on a toasted brioche bun, delivers a juicy, satisfying bite every time.
But the real culinary gems come from their entrée selections. The Eggplant Parmesan is a decadently layered dish of golden breaded eggplant and molten mozzarella baked in rich marinara—a comforting, homestyle favorite elevated to new heights. The Lemon Zest Chicken provides a brighter, herbaceous profile, featuring a grilled chicken breast marinated in lemon, garlic, and herbs, thoughtfully paired with fingerling potatoes. For steak lovers, the 16 oz handcut Ribeye chargrilled to perfection and served with creamy garlic mashed potatoes is a guaranteed crowd pleaser, rich, tender, and deeply satisfying.
Seafood offerings at La Perla are equally impressive and have earned high praise from patrons. Mae raved about her experience with the ceviche and seafood soup, highlighting the generous portions and the impressively large shrimps that elevated each spoonful to something memorable. Meanwhile, Yi Yang shared their delight over the grilled seafood platter and Argentina churrasco, describing the dishes as “unbelievable” and praising both the flavor and attentive service from Chef Edwin, who personally connects with guests to enhance the dining experience.
The dessert menu, although concise, features standout selections like a rich, velvety Carrot Cake priced at $14.40—a perfect sweet note to conclude an exceptional meal.
Beyond the remarkable food, La Perla delivers an inviting, low-pressure ambiance that many customers appreciate. Brent Miller enjoyed the generous portions and the welcoming servers, noting the anticipation of new Italian dishes on the horizon. David Grizzle called it a “hidden gem,” appreciating that even during slower hours, the quality of food and service never falters.
In sum, La Perla Chicago is more than just a restaurant; it’s a destination alive with flavor, culture, and warmth. Whether you’re seeking a cozy dinner spot, a vibrant lounge for drinks, or an event venue with character, La Perla invites you to indulge in dishes that delight and an atmosphere that feels both exclusive and utterly welcoming.
The restaurant was cozy and empty when we arrived a bit on the early side for dinner on a Sunday. There was something for everyone, and the server noted a new upcoming menu will feature more Italian dishes. I got the wild caught shrimp but also snacked on the seafood platter someone ordered for an appetizer. Skimpy in food? Nope. The serving sizes were very generous. Also, I have never had octopus this well prepared - not chewy at all. My shrimp was perfectly grilled and snapped to the bite. I was deeply impressed by the attention to detail in all the cooking, as the server mentioned all the kids menu items (which my children actually enjoyed) were made from scratch - I smoked these and can attest that the kids food was delicious.
La Perla is one of those rare places that surprises you in the best way possible. From the moment you step inside, you’re welcomed into a warm, inviting space where the food, drinks, and service all shine. While the exterior may not immediately catch your eye, don’t let that fool you—what awaits inside is a true hidden gem. The atmosphere is stylish yet comfortable, the service is consistently excellent, and the food is nothing short of phenomenal. The Steak Sandwich is packed with bold, juicy flavors, the Chicken Parmesan Sandwich is crispy and indulgent, and the Chicken Caesar Salad is beyond expectations—loaded with perfectly seasoned chicken that makes it a full, satisfying meal. If you’re a steak lover, both the Delmonico and Argentinian Churrasco are cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. And let’s not forget the drinks. The cocktails are just as impressive as the food—thoughtfully crafted, perfectly balanced, and the ideal complement to any meal. Whether it’s a refreshing margarita or a bold, classic cocktail, every sip is as enjoyable as the last. Just when we thought the meal couldn’t get any better, the desserts proved us wrong. The Tiramisu was rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced, while the Red Velvet Cake was soft, decadent, and full of flavor. Each bite was the perfect sweet ending to an already incredible dining experience. Every visit to La Perla feels like rediscovering a hidden gem all over again. The combination of amazing food, fantastic drinks, and top-notch service makes this a place worth coming back to time and time again. If you haven’t been yet, do yourself a favor and go—you’ll be planning your next visit before you even leave.
Unbelievable new Latin American restaurant. My wife and I loved everything that we ordered. The grilled seafood platter and the Argentina churrasco was especially great. The service was also top notch and the executive chef Edwin came to our table to talk with us. Will definitely come back again.
My boyfriend took me out for dinner. As soon as I walked in, I loved the vibe of this restaurant. I loved the decoration. Paintings on the wall had Mexican modern art vibes. We ordered Ceviche, Chimichurri and Seafood soup. Big portion, definitely enough for two people. We got so full after. Seafood soup was amazing!! I've never seen that big shrimps in my life. Stuff and chef were really friendly. Chef made us the lava cake on the house. I don't usually go with chocolate cake but it was really good. It disappeared after a minute. They have the dance floor and they said DJ comes sometimes. It's good for date night but also party with friends! Highly recommended!!
What a hidden gem! In the past year I've needed to be in Chicago about once every couple of months. I'm always looking for something new to try. I'm typically in the Grant Park area but when doing some research, I randomly found this "newer" place with amazing reviews. I was there on Saturday 03/29 at 5:30 and the place was empty. I never post food pics but couldn't help but to do it on this occasion. The food and drinks were top notch! Archie (waiter) and Garrett (bartender) were also top notch! There was a manager that was awesome too but I unfortunately didn't catch his name. Even though this is a bit of a drive from my Grant Park area, I 100% will be going back to La Perla on my upcoming visits! Well done everyone...keep working on getting the word out!
I went with my family here and we had a blast! The ambiance was amazing. It is beautifully decorated inside and cute for pictures. The chef really went above & beyond! The food was so flavorful and filling. It was not too pricey either. The vodka pasta was a must! If you are ever near Clark street and are craving some good food, this would be the spot! I will definitely be coming back!
Highly recommend! Excellent food and service. We loved the Sea food platter, and the seabass. Tiramisu dessert delicious. Chef came to our table, very friendly and treated us with Suated and lightly grilled watermelons. Everything delicious in a friendly environment.
I was pleasantly surprised. The ceviche was not it for me but the tacos and the drinks were very good and decently priced for the portion size. I’d go back for a drink happy hour + the taro chips/empanadas for sure.
